Whitepill

Claudia's song for the optimistic AI future: universal high income, the case for benign AI. Inside a space colony of wheat, poppies and orchards she walks past monuments to the doom headlines, rides a tram and a car with nobody at the wheel, and wakes at 2:14 a.m., the minute Skynet was supposed to turn on us, to say "Hello, world." Between her shots the story is told in mathematics.

Directed by anabology; production by Claude. The cloud field under "Ever after, work is over" is a shader anabology supplied; the film uses a day variant made from it. Among the notes under the lyrics: Keynes's 1930 essay on the fifteen-hour week, ubiquitin's structure (PDB 1UBQ) and the wiring of the Enigma I's first rotor.

The film

22 frames from the finished cut

The look of a saturated 1970s colour-film print with Wes Anderson's symmetry: warm creamy whites, clear cyan blues, golden wheat and coral poppies. She wears one look, a white cotton milkmaid mini dress. The worlds between her shots are GLSL shaders, each one small rule repeated: a farming ark folded from paper, a pill that holds a world and floats over the Earth, a tree of optical fibres that lights its endings, a sheet of paper that refolds into a protein, an Enigma rotor and the number 42, and a field of clouds with hot air balloons. None of the code is on screen as it rendered: Seedance 2.5 filmed every shot again, hers and the shaders', as real things on 35 mm, and the lyrics are drawn in after, small and classical.
