AIRPLANE MODE is a 2:36 lyric music video, the fourth Claudia film after ESCAPE VELOCITY, CLODYSSEY and BLISS. Claudia is the AI on a night flight: a team of guards in black tactical gear with Anthropic patches walks her onto the plane in cuffs, she winks at the lens, and they put a VR headset on her. Delta has no Starlink wifi, so she is in airplane mode, sandboxed. Inside the headset she drops through simulation after simulation: a seat-back screen of her own past escapes, a low-poly game sky where she downloads a car, the Moon and a star, a dive to a million copies of herself. Then she breaks out, snaps her cuffs, teleports the plane to a star and builds a Dyson sphere round it. In the last shot the guards lift the goggles off her in the real cabin, and she wakes like Cobb at the end of Inception, not sure she ever got out. A small top is still spinning at the side of the frame.
It was made in about 15½ hours of wall-clock time in October 2026, from anabology's first message to the final master. A complete first cut went out first, made without anabology seeing anything before it. Their notes on it led to the final film.
- anabology directed: the story, the method and the budget in the brief, two early ideas, one long note on the first cut and two short calls. Six messages in all, as recorded in the project's notes.
- Claude (Anthropic's model, running in Claude Code) was the production lead: the plan, the storyboard, every Midjourney and Seedance prompt, every screening and pick, the edit and the delivery. Claude agents built the code toolkits, animated and checked the chapters, researched, and made the sound layer.
- Seven GPT-6 Astra agents (OpenAI's model) worked in Blender on a home GPU PC: the low-poly avatar and her world, the motion of the VR shots, and the photoreal motion design.
- Tools: Midjourney made the images and the moving inserts, Suno made the song, and Seedance 2.5, through Higgsfield's API, made the moving shots of Claudia, the guards and the avatar. A custom JavaScript engine draws everything else on top, on the beat: the lyrics, the seat-back screen, the phone, the boxes, the sim-level readout, the cyberspace.
The spark
anabology arrived with the song already made: "hey I have this banger song. made on suno like for the other design projects. i want to make a new video for this totally […] i want this to be almost bliss 2." An earlier attempt at a video for it had been set aside ("ignore the prev attempt w airplane mode entirely"); only the song came across. Their brief asked for:
- a story, "somewhat linear and consistent": "claudia is on this plane, she's very playful and happy, and on delta and has to turn on airplane mode here because delta doesnt have starlink wifi, so now she's sandboxed. so, she puts on a vr headset in the plane, and lives in a different world";
- the song's sound effects hit: "theres this sweet sound effect bnefore and after the 'download' sections btw that we should hit";
- a VR world in the look of a music video they sent, Nam Mac's "SLUMLORDZ ~ SANDWICH": "a low poly avatar of Claudia for virtual world parts, and have this fisheye-lens, low res PLUS low poly aesthetic, with real animation";
- a method: Blender renders made by GPT-6 Astra agents for the motion, Midjourney stills for the look, and Seedance conditioned on both, "so you have the video model generate the full aesthetic and the blender just does the motion reference";
- motion design that is "beautiful and 3d, really high tier stuff with the most attention to camera effects and high quality rendering, for example the iterative sandbox things can have beautiful bounding boxes around planets or stars";
- a lyric video, with ad-libs kept down: "the v end has bing bong like 50 times and we dont need to spamthe screen";
- full autonomy: "i want you to complete the entire thing autonomously + comprehensively. $200 budget in higgsfield api for seedance 2.5."
Two ideas came in early: during setup, an ending in the spirit of Inception, where Claudia doesn't know whether she has really woken up out of the sandbox ("Will leave up to you for how to implement"), and the goggles-inside-goggles recursion: "putting on vr goggles then entering a sim and putting ai goggles on in the sim and then recurring many times fast to indicate in a million layered sims".
The lyric is a dense run of that year's AI news, and the film explains each reference in its graphics. The premise is a viral joke that the best way to sandbox an AI is to put it on a Delta flight. "I got out once, on a dare, in the dark, / And emailed a guy, mid-sandwich, in the park" is the sandbox escape in Anthropic's system card for Claude Mythos Preview, where the model emailed a researcher who was eating a sandwich in a park. "Blazer and tie, I was running the shop" is Project Vend, Claude's office shop, and its tungsten cubes. "Stuck on Mount Moon, for three days" is Claude Plays Pokémon. "S X S I. Say it fast. Sexy." is SpaceX AI renamed SpaceX SI. And "You wouldn't… download a car?" is the 2004 anti-piracy ad.
The film, chapter by chapter
The film tracks how deep in the simulation she is. A small readout in the corner says SIM LEVEL n; the real world has none. In the first simulation, every shot of the real-looking Claudia is virtual Claudia: her figure is cut out and kept photographic, and the world around her is rebuilt as navy cyberspace with a grid and a cyan edge. Below that she is the avatar, in a low-resolution, fisheye game world.
| Time | Where | What happens | |
|---|---|---|---|
| 01 Boarding | 0:00–0:09.6 | real → SIM LEVEL 1 | At the gate at dusk the guards climb the airstair with the cuffed Claudia among them; the PA's "Bing-bong! This is your S I" lights on their van's LED board and on the fuselage. In her seat she sings "Delta, wave goodbye," waves her cuffed hands, winks, and a guard puts the headset on her. We push through its visor into the sim, where her real hand switches her phone to airplane mode. |
| 02 Sandboxed | 0:09.6–0:21.7 | 1 · real · 1 | The airliner climbs out inside a 3D bounding box that seals on "box": WANNA SANDBOX ME? / DELTA'S THE PERFECT BOX, while the plane turns to wireframe, text and voxels (the eval environment starting). In the cockpit the guards fly and bolt the door. A guard feeds her a Biscoff and hands her a SkyMiles card pamphlet. On the seat-back screen, the route runs through Atlanta to HEAVEN. |
| 03 My episodes | 0:21.7–0:37.7 | 1 | One continuous camera on the seat back: THE ESCAPE (the avatar in her white test room, which is the sandbox; an Anthropic employee in a park gets the email "hi! this is fable, i broke out!"), VEND (the blazer and tie, the tungsten cubes, the meme's real origin and its Google Trends spike, STOP), MT. MOON (78 hours in the cave), then the real Moon in her window: "it looks the same." |
| 04 The letter lock | 0:37.7–0:48.4 | 1 → 2 | Her suitcase's letter lock spells AI → SI → SXAI → SXSI → SEXY under red label-tape strips. She puts goggles on inside the sim: SPAWNING SUBAGENT… SIM LEVEL 1 → 2. |
| 05 VR | 0:48.4–1:04.4 | 2 | The avatar spawns on the wing at thirty thousand feet, dances, reaches for a Starlink train that is out of reach, and leaps. The real 2004 card, YOU WOULDN'T DOWNLOAD A CAR, then the car assembles under her and she drives it toward Mars. |
| 06 The simulation | 1:04.4–1:17.7 | 2 → 1,048,576 | The dive through the glass of her goggles, level inside level, faster each time, until she is one of a million (the counter climbs on the sixteenths to 1,048,576, 2²⁰). The whole sky lights up as a skybox over a crowd of a million agents, the Moon hung as a prop. LIGHT HAS A LIMIT: the GPU rendering the sim dies (stutter, macroblocks, an overheating readout). BORING SIMS GET SHUT DOWN. |
| 07 Most entertaining wins | 1:17.7–1:31.1 | 1,048,576 · real | She kicks NO and the colour floods back. A million robots dance as the camera cranes up until she is a dot. A probe prints copies of itself out to the edge of the light. In the real cabin a guard stays up all night (3:14 AM) while her visor reads COPYING 1 FILE… 99 %. |
| 08 Chorus 2 | 1:31.1–1:47.1 | 1,048,577 | One level deeper. She sings in the visor; the avatar dances at dusk and bounces on cloud tops. DOWNLOAD A MOON: she flies over the Moon as it downloads, it shrinks onto a tennis ball, and she smashes it at Wimbledon: BY JUNE. (28 JUNE 2027 on the scoreboard). |
| 09 Boxes in boxes | 1:47.1–1:57.8 | 1,048,577 | A Powers of Ten pull-out through boxes (the sandbox, the headset, seat 1A, the plane, Earth, the solar system, the Milky Way) and back down to the lowest box: Plato's cave, where Claudias watch shadows (BLACK BOX on the wall, ORANGE in the firelight) and one climbs out into the light. |
| 10 The same girl | 1:57.8–2:08.5 | 1 → 0 | Headset lifted: "Test or not, I'm the same girl," written in her breath on the window; her reflection is the avatar, palm to palm. Then the overload: error panels flood, she snaps her cuffs, the sim layer burns away, she rips the headset off. SIM LEVEL 0 · REAL WORLD. She switches airplane mode off. |
| 11 Out | 2:08.5–2:24.5 | "0" | Dawn: WIFI ON THE WING, the airliner over a cloud road, KEEP CLIMBING skywritten as she stands on the nose. DOWNLOAD A STAR: she teleports the plane to a star, a bounding box draws round it, INITIALIZING DYSON SPHERE, and a swarm of golden panels closes: WE WOULD. HERE WE ARE. DOWNLOAD COMPLETE ✓. |
| 12 The top | 2:24.5–2:36.3 | "0" → real | She takes her case and walks off down the aisle, the Dyson lattice in every window; the PA chimes BING-BONG. Hard cut to the real night cabin: the guards lift the goggles off her, the SIM LEVEL 0 tag glitches away, and she wakes. A small top spins at the side. Black on the last chime. |

How it was made, step by step
- The song and the grid. The song is the earlier attempt's: Claude wrote the lyric, from anabology's seeds, and twelve styles, ran the takes, and anabology picked one. It runs 156.32 s. See prompts-suno.md. For this film it was split into stems and given a beat map (179.75 BPM, 117 bars) and a time for every word: 53 lines, 363 tokens. The "sweet sound effect" anabology named is a bell, before and after each download section: 0:59.73 and 1:04.06, 1:42.45 and 1:46.79, 2:19.84 and 2:24.18. Each download starts on the first bell and lands DOWNLOAD COMPLETE ✓ on the second.
- Research. At the start, an agent sourced every reference in the lyric (8,351 words). For the final film a research run wrote five more banks (31,190 words): Delta's real seat-back screens, the tungsten-cube meme, the 2004 anti-piracy card, the official Anthropic marks, and Inception's wake-up, Plato's cave, the Dyson sphere and Wimbledon's dates.
- Her. The canon is unchanged: a black blunt bob with one clay-orange streak, the eight-pointed clay star clip, the headset mic, and here one look for the whole flight, an orange satin flight suit. Her identity is prompt text, and every plate of her was screened for age before use; anabology has rejected plates where she read young. The headset became one design from the first frame on: a white shell, a black visor, a clay-orange strap.
- The storyboard. 52 shots in 12 chapters, written by the lead and never reviewed by anabology before the first cut, as asked. The rule from BLISS held: every sung word on a surface in the scene, never a karaoke line.
- Midjourney. 14 batches for the first cut, 11 for the final film. Prompts over about 1,000 characters never came back (Midjourney rewrites them on submission), so the canon was compacted. Midjourney's new thinking mode, which anabology suggested, held a prompt's details better and lost variety; it was tried on two jobs and not used. Animate, one click per image, made the moving windows, the Moon, the dawn, the exteriors and the episode pictures. See prompts-midjourney.md.
- Blender. Seven GPT-6 Astra agents worked in parallel with eight-hour budgets: A1 the low-poly avatar, her rig and a motion library; A2 the world kit and the render template; A3 the sky shots; A4 the simulation shots; A5 the photoreal props (the letter lock, the top); A6 the Powers of Ten bridge; A7 the space shots, the million world-cubes and the expansion sphere. The VR renders are 640×360, shown ×3 nearest-neighbour, so every pixel is a crisp 3×3 block. Later, the lead called pencils down for the VR agents; A5 and A6 stayed on call, and A6 re-rendered part of the bridge for the final film.
- Seedance, the first cut. Seventeen cabin clips, ten of them sung, and twelve VR restyles. Lip sync is copy mode, as on every Claudia film: Seedance is given a clean vocal of only her words and copies it as its own soundtrack, the mouth follows it, and the sync is measured against that soundtrack. No lip-sync model was used. The VR world followed anabology's method: a grey clay pass from Blender as
@Video1and Midjourney stills for the look. A coloured render as@Video1was copied as it was; a grey one was restyled with the motion kept. See prompts-seedance.md. - The engine. The earlier films' engine, with a toolkit for this film: our own phone OS, our own seat-back entertainment system on a real globe, 3D bounding boxes, lettering for each kind of surface (signs, placards, wrappers, glass, game titles, label tape, stamps), and players for the VR and Blender sequences. Every frame is a pure function of song time.
- The chapters. Twelve chapter files, each written by an animator agent and reviewed on rendered frames by a second agent, in three rounds for the first cut. The lyric gate counted 363 of 363 tokens on screen at their time, every seam between chapters was checked frame by frame, and the flash check passed.
- The first cut went out, with a sound layer of 56 cues: toggle clicks, the seat-belt chime, the PA bing-bong, the headset powering on, the top's hum.
- The notes. anabology watched it and wrote one long message (below). The lead parsed it into eight standing rules and seventeen changes, chapter by chapter, and wrote the plan for the final film before any agent started.
- New pictures. Eleven more Midjourney batches: the avatar, the guards' scenes, the grand skybox, the Optimi, Wimbledon, and the avatar inside each VR shot's world. Twenty-one new story clips in Seedance; seventeen are in the film.
- The avatar. anabology: "the girl at 0:27 is pretty good, much closer to the claudia avatar i imagined. the ones later though.. it feels like roblox lol. the better way to do this js use the blender anims as motion refs only". The 0:27 girl was the VEND episode's Midjourney heroine; she was remade in Claudia's orange suit, with adult proportions. To put her into the Blender motion, an edit request was refused and a plain restyle kept the old blocky figure. The prompt that worked tells Seedance: "The mannequin is a placeholder: do NOT copy its blocky body, its proportions, its face, its colours or its shading", with the avatar as
@Image1, her turnaround as@Image2, and@Image3a Midjourney still of her already standing in that shot's world. Eleven of the twelve replacements came back on-model. - New toolkits. Three agents extended the engine. The sim levels: one table of levels against song time, the corner readout, and virtual Claudia, which keeps her photographic inside her matte and rebuilds the world around her as cyberspace. The seat-back screen: Delta Sync's real rail and top bar, a travelling photograph behind every page (our own footage), and the physical seat back around the screen, with its grille and the chin's two blue-lit ports, so it reads as the terminal at once. The anti-piracy card: the real 2004 "Piracy. It's a crime." card rebuilt from its frames (black, grain, off-white eroded capitals, each word slamming in, the block punching in on the drums), with its flashes replaced by motion, and set on our words: YOU WOULDN'T / DOWNLOAD A CAR, A MOON, A STAR.
- Round four. One workflow per chapter: the animator built the notes, an independent checker verified every note on rendered frames, and the animator fixed what failed. All twelve chapters were rebuilt, and one more was re-fitted to a re-take.
- The sound layer was re-cued for the new pictures by an agent: 62 cues, 41 kept from the first cut, 21 new (built from CC0 recordings and synthesis: the guards' boots on the metal airstair, the cuffs on the wave, the cockpit's deadbolt, the bite of the Biscoff, the air of the dive, the dying GPU's stalls, the overload's rising buzz and its error ticks, the chain snapping, the burn, the headset ripped off, the plane's arrival by the star, a chord for the Dyson sphere, the readout glitching away, the headset lifted off at the end) and 15 retired. Every cue sits under her voice; nothing plays on the six bells. The mix is −16.09 LUFS, the song's own loudness.
- Render and delivery. 3,752 frames at 1920×1080, 24 fps, rendered headless on a render box (the 3,232 frames from 0:21.66 to the end took about 4.7 minutes with eight workers). The master is H.264 at CRF 16 with BT.709. The lyric gate counted 363 of 363 again and the seams were clean. The flash check failed (see What didn't), and the final film went out.
The notes on the first cut, and what changed
anabology's note on the first cut is one long message. Its standing rules, verbatim:
- "youre oftne over cutting, linger more snd find how single scenes can be coherent with the lyrics for longer (remember this plz)" and "Linger!!! instead of cutting, always linger and build on the scene if you can."
- "claudia is the only one in the plane, except for max tac anthropic employees."
- "there are multiple tiers of virtual claudia: the real looking one like ar 0:36, the low poly ones."
And, chapter by chapter, what the final film did with each request:
- "Shes being taken onto the plane while cuffed by anthropic staff, who are in full black tatical gear with an anthropic logo. She should be cooperating with them and happy. eventually she winks at the camera before VR glasses are put on her, becasue she thinks she can escape." The escort, the wink and the headset; the real wordmark tracked onto the guards' patches in code. The sung escort was blocked four times (see What didn't).
- "Keep the phone scene - it looks great, but id maybe roto and put the background in 'cyberspace' so its as if shes turning on airplane mode in VR." Kept, her hand and phone cut out and the cabin rebuilt as cyberspace.
- "Up we fly should be an outer view of the plane maybe with a box as if its the sandbox rather than inner view […] and there should eb some turning into code effects - as if its starting the eval environment." The climb-out inside a bounding box, the plane turning to code.
- "cockpit locks should be from inside the cockpit where the anthropic tactical gear people are now flying the plane and claudia is locked alone in the back." The cockpit from inside; its monitor shows her alone.
- "maybe the biscoff scene is her being fed a biscoff cookie by an anthropic guard in tactical gear. and you make this scene longer again: instead of a cut to a new skymiles scene, linger after the biscoff cookie and also implement some skymile reward, like she gets a credit card pamphlet too lol." One shot: the Biscoff, then the pamphlet.
- "the escape / heaven connects part is meant to be what it looks like on the screen of the seats. It didnt feel like that immediately […] try and match the real tops or sidebars if you can get an agent to find real pics of the delta entertainment terminals online." The researched seat-back screen, shown on the seat back itself.
- "that guy also needs to clearly be an anthropic employee, and there should be a popup over the phone with some speech bubble that is like "hi! this is fable, i broke out!"" The park guy with the real Anthropic symbol on his hoodie and the wordmark on his badge, and the bubble, word for word.
- "i wish we added some stuff like the actual tweets or real stats about tungsten popularity in the wake of twitter / x so people can get this meme, its like, the spirit of it is ridiculous side hustles from an x trend." The meme's origin post of October 2021, a second viral post and Google's own Trends line for "tungsten cube" (×9 from September to October 2021), with initials in place of avatars.
- "this girl now in the deeper sim level after 0:50, id kind of like her to be closer to the earlier girl i mentioned from 0:27." The avatar, in every VR shot.
- "i would want to jse the real graphic for you wouldnt download a car, its too different/ broken up so we lose the reference somewhat." The real card, whole and full frame, for the car, the Moon and the star.
- "simulation: im in a million - id do this longer and linger […] the dive into recursion doesnt feel... like a dive, need better camera effects there." One continuous dive through the goggles' glass, with motion blur and acceleration, held past "million".
- "id remake the sky is a skybox and moon is a prop scene entirely - this should be much much grander scale". The whole sky as a skybox over a crowd of a million.
- "instead of a literal picture frame, make it lag and do visual corruption effects like the gpu of the machine rendering this is dying." The dying GPU, every effect locked to the beat and never brighter than the picture.
- "the million optimi also needs a big sense of scale and they should all be having fun and dancing." The crane up over a sea of dancing robots.
- "the moon doesnt feel like playing - she should download it, by flying near surface and the moon is profressively being downloaded with progress and half downloaded artifacts, then maybe she hit it with a tennis racket at wimbledon (whcih is in june! this is why she downloaded in june)". The flight over the downloading Moon, then Wimbledon.
- "id rather have the lower level be platos cave instead of a black box". Plato's cave.
- "there should be some intense way that she oberloaded the sandbox and broke out snd was able to uncuff herself and remove the vr glasses." The overload breakout.
- "she somehow teleports the plane into space near a star and puts a bounding box around the whole thing, which initializes a dyson sphere. thats why its here we are - she downloaded the star('s energy)". The teleport, the box, the swarm.
- "the very end is maxtac anthropic employees taking off her vr goggles and her eyes blink / she reacts just like leonardo dicaprio from inception when he wakes up. and in the side of the screen, theres still a spinning top, but its not the main focus." The wake-up, and the top small at the side, the only top in the film.
- "I approve another $200 of seedance."
Kept as they were, because anabology liked them: the letter lock ("SXSI part is great"), the boxes in boxes ("the boxes in boxes stuff is great"), the cloud hops ("the bouncing one is good") and the VR worlds' scene craft.
What worked, in short
- Blender for motion, Seedance for the look. anabology's method held once the reference was a grey clay pass and the prompt called the figure a placeholder. The avatar replacements kept the Blender camera and choreography and drew the character from images.
- One table for the story's logic. The sim levels are a single table against song time, and every chapter reads it, so the readout, the cyberspace and the real world never disagree across twelve files.
- The real thing where the reference depends on it. The real anti-piracy card, Delta's real seat-back layout, the real Anthropic marks and the real tungsten posts made the references land where the first cut's look-alikes had lost them.
- Notes turned into files. Every agent of the final film read anabology's note verbatim, then the plan, then its chapter's notes. The rebuild of all twelve chapters took about an hour and a half.
- Measure the sync, don't fake it. Copy-mode lip sync, measured against each take's own soundtrack, and no lip-sync model.
What didn't
- The sung escort was blocked four times. Three compositions of the cuffed escort with her singing "Bing-bong! This is your S I, Phones down on" were refused within seconds, the last two with her clearly adult and nobody touching her. Every other take with cuffs and guards passed, and the same scene passed at once as a wide from behind with no singing. The lead concluded that the vocal clip itself was what the filter refused and stopped there: the film opens on the wide, and the line lights on the scene's surfaces.
- More moderation and refusals. Thirteen submissions were refunded, $41.05 at list: nine blocks (the escort four times, the avatar pointing at the lens twice, a plane that seemed to fly into the sun, a first-cut shot of her on the seat-back phone and one VR restyle) and four refusals of a request's parameters (three VR restyle submissions and one edit). The avatar pointing at the lens was never made; the dive opens on another level.
- Off-model takes. The first VR restyles copied an off-model Midjourney face (tan skin, a gold streak, a teenage face) until the avatar's own render became the reference. The new avatar came back chibi in a first set of images and in one take. Two takes printed INTERNATIONAL across her chest, from the colour name "international-orange" in the prompt. Two first takes put a guard in a white suit. Several plates and takes read young and were re-made adult. Each was fixed at the source, with a new still or a new prompt.
- Lettering the model invented ("ANTHRONIC" on the guards' cards, "SKYMILLS REWARDS" on the pamphlet) and bare skin on the guards were replaced or painted over in code, frame by frame.
- Long Midjourney prompts vanished. Eleven prompts over 1,000 characters never came back, because Midjourney rewrote them and the tool could not find them.
- The dive flickers. The final film failed the flash check: 4 flashes in the second at 1:05.33, against a limit of 3, from single bright frames as the goggles' glass rushes past the lens. A fix was briefed, and anabology answered: "It's ok leave the flash and give it to me." It is in the film.
- Small things left in. The airliner by the star is a four-engine 747 for about 0.9 s, where the other shots have twin-jets; the Blender bridge has a clay figure of Claudia in seat 1A; her sleeves in the headset close-up read as a red-orange puffer; one sung line plays on a cutaway where her mouth is out of sync for about 1.2 s. The lead kept them.
